Yes, We Are! Interpreting Pantomime and Musicality and Characterisation

Communication Professional
Price: £240

This advanced, 2 day CPD‑accredited programme is designed for BSL/English interpreters seeking to expand their skills in live performance settings, from musical theatre and festivals to comedy and pantomime. Across two immersive days, you’ll explore how to embody rhythm, melody and emotional tone, shift between character roles, and interpret the pace, humour and physicality of live productions with confidence and flair.

Led by experienced theatre interpreters and performance specialists, sessions blend focused theory with practical rehearsal, performance‑based tasks and live feedback in a safe, collaborative and non‑judgemental environment. You’ll develop techniques for aligning interpretation with tempo and musicality, mastering comic timing and audience engagement, navigating improvisation, and building expressive characterisation through BSL.

All participants receive detailed individual feedback, a comprehensive course pack, CPD recording guidance, access to a supportive professional network, and a CPD certificate suitable for submission to awarding bodies, with the opportunity to claim an additional 5–10 hours of reflective CPD.

Key learning areas include:

  • Understanding the nuances of different types of comedy and pantomime conventions
  • Developing comic timing, rhythm, and audience interaction techniques
  • Mastering characterisation and visual storytelling for fast-paced, unscripted performances
  • Navigating improvisation and off-script moments with confidence

What You Will Receive

  • Constructive, individualised feedback tailored to your development
  • A comprehensive resource pack including key learning summaries
  • Guidance and support to record, structure, and evidence your CPD activities
  • Access to a supportive network of fellow interpreters and professionals for continued learning
  • Opportunities to build professional connections and friendships
  • A CPD certificate demonstrating your attendance and learning, suitable for submission to awarding bodies
  • The opportunity to claim an additional 5–10 hours of off-course CPD through related study and reflection
