Learning Outcomes
This course has been created to ensure that by completion, you will have a solid foundation to enable you to work as an electronic notetaker within a variety of settings, producing both precis and near-verbatim notes.
How this course is assessed
Overall, you will complete 11 assessments, which will be provided as you progress through the course. We ask that you complete one assessment at minimum a week.
Following the submission of an assessment, one of our tutors will assess and mark your coursework within seven working days, providing you with detailed feedback and letting you know whether you have been given a ‘pass’ for this assessment. If there are areas you need to work on further or have been missed, we will let you know and provide you with an opportunity to resubmit.
As part of this course, you must demonstrate a level of self-awareness and can evaluate your skills throughout your learning journey. As part of this, we’ll need you to evaluate your notetaking skills throughout the course.
The assessments are entitled:
- Key facts of deafness and deafblindness
- Understanding the impact of being deaf/ deafblind
- Modifying Notes
- Preparing for Professional Assignments
- Notetaking Practice and Evidence
- Live Assignment
- Learning Journals
Throughout the course, you will be provided with opportunities to practice your notetaking skills and collect evidence. Even with this, we ask all of our students to be proactive and look for opportunities, such as Annual General Meetings (AGMs), meetings in the public domain or at their work to collect real-life evidence. Notetaking evidence should be collected throughout the course.
The course is split into 2 parts as per signatures requirements:
Part one covers the following:
- Key facts about deafness, deafblindness and communication tactics
- Understanding the impact of being deaf/deafblind in a hearing world
- Being able to modify language to make it accessible for deaf and deafblind people
- Knowing how to prepare for professional assignments
Part two covers the technical aspects of being an electronic notetaker.
Referencing
When completing the assignments, we strongly encourage students to research and reference their sources. As part of this, we use the Harvard referencing style set out by The Open University.
Typed assignments should use a 12-point font (Sans Serif, Tahoma, Arial, Calibri, or similar) and double line spacing, and all pages should be numbered.
Once you have completed all of the coursework, your work will be submitted to our awarding body for external modification. Once they approve your work, you will receive your certificate from us.
Join our team!
Once qualified, you are welcome to join our books as a freelance Electronic Notetaker, and we can begin to offer you a variety of work with clients all over the UK. To register with us, complete this form.
Student handbook
To aid your learning journey with us, we have created a student handbook containing information relating to the course, our examination body and your learning journey with us. Please review this before starting the course, and feel free to get in touch if you have any questions.
Remember, you’re on a learning journey
You are not expected to be an expert notetaker prior to or at the end of this course; this comes with time, practice and experience. However, we will provide you with the skills required to practice safely.
