Safer recruitment is a fundamental part of safeguarding in education. Schools, colleges and other education settings have a legal and moral responsibility to ensure that recruitment processes protect children and prevent unsuitable individuals from gaining positions of trust.

This course provides a clear and practical introduction to safer recruitment practices within the United Kingdom education sector. Learners will explore safeguarding responsibilities, recruitment risk management and the legal and regulatory frameworks that underpin safe hiring, including statutory guidance such as Keeping Children Safe in Education.

The course explains how to design and implement recruitment procedures that place safeguarding at the centre of every stage, from role planning and advertising through to shortlisting, interviewing, pre-employment checks and induction. Learners will also explore how to recognise warning signs during recruitment, conduct safer interviews and carry out appropriate vetting checks.

By completing this course, learners will develop the knowledge and confidence needed to support safer recruitment processes and contribute to strong safeguarding cultures within education settings.
