Course Overview
Taxi drivers play an important role in safeguarding children and young people within the community. Many drivers regularly transport children to and from school, healthcare appointments, social care placements, and other activities. In some situations, drivers may be the only responsible adult present during a journey.
Because of this, taxi drivers are in a unique position to notice when a child may be at risk of harm, exploitation, or neglect. Recognising these situations and understanding how to respond appropriately is an important part of protecting vulnerable children.
This course provides taxi drivers with a clear understanding of safeguarding responsibilities, helping them recognise potential signs of abuse or exploitation and respond appropriately. It also explains the importance of professional boundaries, safe working practices, and reporting procedures when concerns arise.
The course is designed to support drivers working in both private hire and hackney carriage roles and aligns with safeguarding expectations commonly required by local licensing authorities.
By completing this course, learners will gain the knowledge needed to identify safeguarding risks, understand their responsibilities when transporting children, and know how to report concerns safely and appropriately.
