Course Overview
Children and young people participate in sports and youth activities to develop confidence, social skills, and physical wellbeing. Sports clubs, youth organisations, and community programmes provide important opportunities for children to learn and grow. However, these environments also create safeguarding responsibilities for the adults who lead and supervise activities.
Sports coaches and youth leaders are often trusted figures in children’s lives. They may spend significant time with children during training sessions, competitions, trips, and activities. This level of access and influence means that coaches and youth leaders play a critical role in recognising safeguarding concerns and protecting children from harm.
This course provides essential safeguarding training for individuals working in sports and youth settings. It explores the safeguarding risks that may arise in these environments and explains how coaches and youth leaders can create safe, inclusive, and supportive spaces for children and young people.
The course covers safeguarding responsibilities, recognising abuse and neglect, responding to concerns, and maintaining professional boundaries when working with children.
